In 2002, I sent my ten-year old daughter, Jacki, to CSL for two weeks and she too fell in love with it. She was a Sr. Camper in 2007 and staff from 2009-2012. She says many of her best friends are her CSL friends, especially Tusc ’07, and she shares that feeling that no one really understands unless you were lucky enough to spend a summer or more at CSL.
Paul Underberg and I started the Sr. Camper program in 1979 and in 1980 we moved out to the old abandoned village of “Old Mohawk” and renamed it Tuscarora.

Today, Tusc is still the ultimate year in a camper’s life. The program has grown to be even more than Paul or I imagined but the anticipation at the beginning of the summer, by both the campers and the staff, is still the same. The staff hopes they can lead the growth of these young teens, and the camper’s hope that their Tusc summer will be the absolute best in CSL history. And, that at the end of the summer, the feelings they share with their fellow Sr. Campers and staff will never change and will remain deep forever. From what Ari and Josh have told me, I am sure Tusc ’13 will rock CSL and go down in history!
If you are an alumnus and want to visit camp, please call John or Aaron, once camp has started, and make plans to stop by. You will see that while some of the physical buildings have changed and many are the same, the spirit of CSL is still the same as it was when you went years ago.
If you are coming to Visitor’s Day in July to see your child or grandchild, stop at the Alumni table at the Waterfront to say hello. We are hoping to connect with all the alumni that are sharing CSL with their children. As the Sr. Campers in 1981 said, “you can’t be 20, in Tuscarora, with the Seniors Betsy, Paul, Neil and Jane” but you can go back and visit the place you love.

P.S. As a CSL alum, I’ve made plans to include CSL in my estate planning since I want my future grandchildren to go to CSL and their children to go too. If you are interested in learning more about the CSL Legacy Program, please let John Golden or Aaron Cantor know.
