Hello Everyone:
Wednesday night was Israel night! Campers and staff time traveled to six different eras in the history of Israel, learning about all of the different peoples who have controlled the land of Israel over the past four thousand years. Stations included improvisational bibliodrama at Biblical Israel, singing King David psalms in the era of Judges, Kings, and Prophets, Olympic contests in the Greek/ Hellenistic era, tug of war in the Roman Era, and mosaic art in the Islamic era. Campers all ended in the modern State of Israel where they sang Hatikvah as a community and had fun at a Yom Ha'atzmaut style dance. The primary educational goal was to help campers and staff conceptualize the miracle of the modern nation-state within the context of four thousand years of mostly foreign control. It's certainly something to relish, and celebrate.
