Hello Seneca Spiel readers,
My most sincere apologies for the lack of postings over the last few days - we've been having too much fun to sit down at the computer! To bring you up to speed, I'll run you through the last week:
~Tuesday and Wednesday were two full, action-packed, give-it-everything-you-got days of the most spectacular Color War yet. The theme of Fire and Ice carried through the entire program, from the ice carving demonstration during the surprise opening ceremonies to the fire building/ice slab melting competition. Senecans contributed significantly to both teams success and really got a chance to shine during several Seneca-only rounds of all camp events. Ultimately, the Blue team was victorious but everyone who was involved definitely benefited and grew from Color War V.
~Friday camp returned to normal life, no more team rivalry or artificial snow. Although everyone was recovering from the intensity of Color War, we had a normal schedule including hobbies. Friday night was Mohawk and Onondaga-led Shabbat, complete with the very popular Friday night dance for older campers.
~Saturday we tried out a new schedule with the goal of maintaining the relaxed vibe of Shabbat through the full day rather than have it fade throughout the day. We had an extra choice period after services before lunch and moved discussion periods to after lunch. Seneca had some interesting and thought-provoking discussions with Mohawk and staff this week. Topics included a jew's public image on the internet and social networking, Love Your Neighbor Love Yourself about judgments, labels and the golden rule, and the uniqueness and special facets of Shabbat at camp. The day ended with Havdallah services and bunk night.
~Sunday's evening program was Campstock, CSL's talent show. The theme was Royal Court complete with kings and queens, princes, jesters, knights and peasants. The royal court and all of camp were certainly entertained by the numerous and diverse acts including rapping, juggling, singing, dancing and several musical performances. Senecan acts included Isabel Kennedy's a capella rendition of "Price Tag" by Jessie J and Lauren Rodriguez singing a song she wrote herself. Great job, girls!
~Monday several Leaders-In-Training (LITs) joined Seneca as Staff-In-Training-In-Training (SITITs). It was a great opportunity for the LITs to get a feel for being staff and figure out where they would best contribute to camp and simultaneously allowed the campers to get to know a different group of CSLers with whom they don't usually interact. Monday night Mohawk and Seneca enjoyed a synchronized swimming competition with the help of their LIT buddies.
~Tuesday, yesterday, was Seneca Day! We had a full super fun day out of camp which some are calling the best S-day ever. I could list what we did but I thought I'd have the campers tell you themselves what they thought - check back later for a detailed description and commentary on the day.
Again, I apologize for the dearth of posts of late but I hope this lengthier post has brought you up to speed. Keep checking back this last week of camp for much more frequent posting.
Yours,
Sarah Levy
