The Evolution of Family Ties

Back in 1993 as a C2 camper, I took my Shabbat Walk date out to Tusc.  I had never seen the village before and was fascinated at the idea of a co-ed village.  Upon arrival, we were greeted by a shower of thrown rocks from the Senior Campers themselves.  This obviously abbreviated the visit to just a few seconds.

Eighteen years later, every single Cayugan and Onondagan was in Tusc at the same time.
Last night, the annual Big Brother-Little Sister program took place which pairs each of our Senior Campers with Cayugans and Onondagans.  When the Cayugans and Onondagans returned to their respective villages after General Swim, their new big brothers and sisters were awaiting them.  The next several hours were filled with various activities and bonding between the new ‘families.’

The boys embarked through an epic capture the flag game that utilized water balloons as the tagging mechanism before heading up to the hill behind the pool for a makeshift ‘slip and slide’ that yielded some extraordinary photos.

The girls stayed in Tusc for the evening, going through an assortment of stations including sand necklace design, nail painting, among other things that I don’t necessarily understand or appreciate as a male.  This was followed up by the big sisters leading their little’s to raid canteen which was, predictably, the highlight of the evening.

Let’s just say there were no rocks thrown at younger campers last night.
