Mohawk's Exciting 3rd Day (July 1st)

Good morning, my name is Michael Lape and I am an activity counselor for M-7, the oldest bunk in the village of Mohawk. This is my 9th year at csl and first as a staff member. I think it is safe to say that these first two days of the summer have been more productive and more fun than any other first week of camp I have been part of. This is due not only to the tremendous work done by all staff here at camp, but also how great our campers have been through this confusing time.

Friday was an extremely busy day here at csl. The morning schedule was filled by our first hobby session of the summer. Campers dispersed all around camp to partake in an activity that they prefer to work on and excel. In pit cooking hobby group, David Jasper was an enthusiastic contributor to the day's big meal. When all was said and done, a delicious chili was prepared for upwards of 30 people. In the afternoon, we watched the first games of the Mohawk National League, our traditional softball league. The campers were incredibly excited to see that the staff had gotten them all t-shirts with their team name and logo on the front. Led by the stellar hitting of Joshua Hurwitz and Andrew Dunaif, the Waterfront Indians defeated the visiting Ropes Course Red Sox by a score of 9-7. Our other result from the day was a 13-7 victory by the Party Boat Pirates over the Kitchen Mets. This was made possible by a Jordan Samkoff home run and 3-run triple.

Friday concluded with our first shabbat service of many. The staff did a wonderful job of preparing the service and the theme, "time" was truly inspirational.

I look forward to blogging again about the exciting happenings here at CSL. Have a great day!
Mike
