Dear Cayuga Campers and Families,
In 24 hours the buses will arrive at CSL and we can’t wait! The Cayuga Staff has been hard at work during the past week to make sure that this summer is the best one yet! Before I get into that let me introduce myself. My name is Gregg and I will be the Cayuga Unit Head again this summer, having previously served in the role last August. This is my 7th summer at camp and my 6th summer as a member of the senior staff team. I started my camp career as a Cayuga Activity Counselor back in 2005 and I am thrilled to have made it full circle to now lead this amazing village.
Now, on to the good stuff... As many of you are aware we have made a temporary move to the village formally known as Onondaga. The Cayuga staff has been hard at work preparing the village and making it feel very much like “home.” Some of the projects we have been working on include creating a brand new village sign, building a new fire circle, installing a tether ball pole, and of course we have added the things that make the village familiar like our cheers hung in the bathroom stalls, bunk signs, and the ever popular chore wheels and shower/tooth-brushing charts. We will also be rededicating the village in a special ceremony on opening night.
The staff has also spent many hours working with myself and the rest of the senior staff on becoming the best counselors we can be through many training sessions. We are very lucky to have mostly all returning staff in the village serving as bunk and activity counselors and each bunk will be joined by a member of our new SIT (Staff In Training) program. Because I know you just can’t wait; here is the list of staff for July 2011.
C-1: Alec Jacobson (Bunk), Jared Masters (A&C), Alec Leve (SIT-Bunk)
C-3: Justin Marcus (Bunk), Mike Pascutoi (Ropes), Jake Massa (SIT-Waterfront)
C-4: Nick Kurek (Bunk), Alex Pelta (Waterfront), Jack Teitel (SIT-Bunk)
C-5: Tristan LeVant (Bunk), Isaac Messina (A&C), Jake Ryan (SIT-Pool)
I am proud to announce that Alec Jacobson will also be serving in the role of Assistant Unit Head this summer. Be looking for his blog post on Wednesday for an update on the first day of camp!
Programmatically speaking, we have many exciting things in store. Many of our traditional village programs like the Cayuga Hockey League and the annual Cayuga Biathlon will happen. Our location for village day is set and we have made some big changes that we think are pretty cool. I am positive that it is a CSL first! July Session as a whole is becoming much more special and unique with some HUGE new additions that you will hear about in the weeks ahead! I can’t wait to share them with you!!! The staff has enthusiastically taken on the challenge of making sure that every bunk will do something extra special outside of the normal camp program EVERY week and as the Unit Head I have made the same commitment to make sure that we do something special as a whole village EVERY week. I’m sure you are all dying for details, but I feel it’s important to keep that element of surprise. All you really need to know right now...SUMMER 2011 IS GOING TO BE AWESOME!
I am greatly looking forward to everyone having a safe, healthy, and most of all FUN summer in the village of Cayuga.
Gregg and the Cayuga Staff
