Yesterday, we had our fourth hobby period of the session, and CSL's newest hobby, Time Travel Through History is taking he camp by storm. Begun by fellow Cayuga staff member and me, Time Travel gives campers the opportunity to have fun doing physical and creative activities while learning about some of history's most prominent civilizations. The hobby was inaugurated with a Roman Gladiator day, in which campers were "captured" then made their gladiator swords and shields out of cardboard. After forging their armor, campers engaged in gladiatorial combat in the GaGa pit. After this session, we added two more Cayugan campers to bring our total to nine Cayugans and one Onandogan.
Day two included a survey of ancient china. Campers competed in an original game that pitted the Ming dynasty against the attacking Mongolians in a Great Wall exercise and then they made their own terra cotta soldiers out of model magic. Day three was civil war day. Time Travel teamed with Fort Building to recreate the Battle of Gettysburg on a rainy day and campers engaged in battle, equipped with bags of flour.
Finally, yesterday was Aztec jaguar day. Campers completed tasks ranging from digging through balloons to find prizes to building pyramids to agility and speed tests, while also making jaguar shirts.
So far campers have been elated to be a part of this new hobby and Omeed and I couldn't be happier to be leading it. We can't wait to continue to surprise and excite the campers!
Best,
