I cannot put into words how I am feeling right now as I reflect on the past 8 weeks here. I have watched our Senecan ladies grow into incredible young women, and I have seen the staff grow tremendously, as well. I have honestly never felt so close to a group of people, and can truly call the village of Seneca my home, and the staff and campers my family.
While every summer at camp is special and a blessing, this summer, 2013, was especially special for me. I recently graduated from high school, and am headed to college a week from today. You could say that I'm in somewhat of a limbo -- but not here. While everything else in my life is changing, camp and Seneca is the one thing that has remained the same. Through thick and thin, I know this village and the entire camp community is supportive and there for me. Not many people can say that, and I feel so incredibly lucky to be part of such a fantastic community.
I can't say enough good things about this summer and the Senecans I have gotten to share it with. Every single person this session has grown and stepped out of his or her comfort zone. Every single person has conquered a fear, made a new friend, or discovered a hidden talent. I am so proud of this entire camp community, and can't imagine what I would do without it.
They say it doesn't matter where you are, rather it's who you're with that matters. While I believe this is a true statement, I can't help but feel that we are even luckier than that. Not only do we have people who matter and love us and care for us, but we also have this beautiful and sacred place to share with each other.
Thank you again for giving us your girls for the summer, and please let them know how proud all the staff is of them and how much we all love them.
Have a fantastic year, and I will definitely see you next summer!
