Hi everyone!
My name is Sydney Ryan and I am an O-1 activity counselor at the pool. I will be one of the many onondaga staff who will be blogging about our days and activities as a village. We will be writing and posting pictures to update you on all of the amazing things we will be doing this summer.
So far onondaga has already accomplished such a wide variety of things and its only the second day! The older girls are doing a great job of welcoming the younger girls, and the younger girls are doing an awesome job trying new things and learning what onondaga is all about. I could not be more excited to spend august with such a fantastic group of young ladies.
The first day the girls got off the bus and were welcomed by all of there staff dressed as Olympians. The excitement was contagious among them as they found there bunks. There was music, cheering, smiles and hugs all throughout lunch. After lunch they found there cabins and unpacked shortly before the activities began. Onondaga had a full day which included swim testing, a visit to the nurse, poison ivy talk with john golden and so much more. They ended the night with some hilarious skits from there staff about there villages as well as specialty areas. They all slept soundly with smiles on there faces.
Today onondaga spend the morning at ropes playing a variety of goofy games and preparing for the challenge of high ropes later on this summer.
The afternoon was full of athletics. Right after rest hour the girls hit the court to show there NON ( our village sports league) skills. After working up a sweat the girls got to jump in the pool for swim lessons where they impressed there own staff as well as the pool staff with there hard work and beautiful swimming.
The evening program was a hit. It was awesome to see all of the onondagan girls interacting with campers of all ages at camp. In there groups they were challenged to search the entire camp for coins which they could use to earn a price at the end. The teams had to work as one to gain the most coins. All though we may be some of the smallest in camp these girls definetly kept up with the older campers and helped there teams towards victory!
Onondaga 2012 is already off to an amazing start. I am so glad we have 2/3 weeks together because I know these girls are all going to accomplish amazing things.
