I love Tikkun Olam Day at CSL. Normal programming begone! The Jewish value of "repairing the world" becomes our center of attention as the entire camp breaks into work teams, each with a special project to improve camp or the outside community in some way.
This is no small feat, and our programming team has worked with our staff for days prepping each project. Murals will be painted (many of you will see these on Visiting Day this Sunday), fields will be improved, beautification takes place throughout camp. The projects are numerous and creative! I'm sure you will get to see the fruits of the efforts of our campers and staff in photos and articles in the CSL blog.
We introduced Tikkun Olam this evening with a small service followed by an activity in which the campers raised donations for four charities. (SPCA, Milly's Pantry, Jewish National Fund and UNICEF). They selected individually the one they wanted their donation to go to. All donations actually came from CSL and an anonynmous donor in camp has also matched what CSL will donate, but the size of the donation was determined by the number of laps each camper ran or walked around set routes in camp. Each and every camper and staff member was a part of this fundraiser and we were all proud of our efforts.
It was a great and spirited introduction of tomorrow's TikkunOlam Day. Stay tuned for more details in future blogs!
