Cayuga Chronicles

Hi all!

My name is Hector Waudby-West and I am an activity counselor in C2 - during periods I work at the pool. Hailing from Inverness in the Highlands of Scotland, I have just completed my first year at The University of St Andrews. This is my first summer at CSL and so far I am thoroughly enjoying the experience!

The past twenty-four hours have been very exciting both for Cayuga and for the camp as a whole, as we all took part in Tickun Olam. Things got off to a great start last night when we all took part in a program designed to build on the idea that 'one cent is better than no cents'. The aim behind this was to encourage everyone to be aware of the wider community, and to think about our opportunities to make a difference, however large or small that difference may be. With this in mind, campers and staff alike took to running laps around the camp, donating a penny to one of four charities upon completion of each lap. By the end, although exhausted, everyone had the sense that we were working together in order to make a difference to our community.

Today, everyone in camp was assigned to a different project around camp. The focus was to make a difference to our surroundings, some examples being the painting of a mural on the Onondaga bathrooms or the building of benches to provide extra seating at the fire circle.

The day was brought to an end with a cookout at the waterfront, followed by a brief service reflecting on the past twenty-four hours.

A wonderful time was has by all, and everyone in camp has an enhanced sense of community and of making a difference.

Best,

Hector Waudby-West
