Cayuga Shabbat

Shabbat services are a special time at camp where the population convenes at the fire circle, the lake acting as a back drop. During Shabbat, campers and staff members are able to reflect on the week through prayer and songs.
Each week, two villages lead Shabbat services with a specific theme in mind. This week, Cayuga paired with Seneca and chose commitment as the theme. There were many opportunities for campers to say a prayer before dinner along with decorating the dining hall and braiding challah. During the friday night service, the Cayugans collectively sang Not by Might by Debbie Friedman before the entire camp. The song connotes the true strength of spirituality over anything physical; although these Cayugans may be small, they maintain significance. Later, the whole village performed an Israeli number, the Rainbow Dance. They all had great fun displaying their newfound moves to the receptive audience. All in all, Cayuga Shabbat was certainly a highlight as the first two weeks draw to a close.

For now,
