Hawk Talk

I haven't taken my camouflage shirt off yet.
Being part of the duo that wrote and choreographed the 2014 Mohawk fight song was certainly an emotional ride. Mohawk, to me, is the physical manifestation of the idea that passion and dedication can achieve anything. All I wanted was for our efforts in Fight Song to testify that philosophy. As counselors we sometimes fake optimism and excitement to keep campers interested in programs. Tonight was not one of those nights.
It's so hard to feel good about losing. Losing hurts deep, especially when losing is the finish line of a difficult journey. The score sheets and programmers assuring that we were so close are maddening.
But, sitting here around the fire with the men of Mohawk, I see something more important than a trophy. I see boys who have just created their legacy. They're resilient, spirited, proud, loyal, and most importantly brothers. To quote our fight song, "the moment is now, our legacy is forever". We are Mohawk 2014 and I would rather lose 100 times with this crew than win with anyone else. You don't have to believe me, but it's the truth.
I believe in the power of Fight Song, I believe in Camp Seneca Lake, and I believe in the Hawk.
