Why We Do What We Do

In 2003 I arrived at camp for my first summer, a young Cayugan, naive in the ways of camp, a place I had only known from my sister and the faint memories of my times here in the late summers for family camp.

My first few summers in the village of Cayuga, while faint in a memory that blends together, gained me life long friends and created stepping stones to a meaningful and memorable experience at camp. I remember my first time going mud running or being crazy and finding the courage not to care what others thought about my actions. Outside of that I only have a few snapshots and small tokens to remind me of the first three summers I spent here at camp seneca lake.

The next three summers were spent in Mohawk where I began to figure out who I was and my role at camp. Pictures were taken and more memories than I could every ask for were made, but still there is nothing significant to for me to look at to recount my past summers here.

It wasn't until my final year as a camper, in Tusc 2009, that the memories I made with the rest of camp, were beginning to be documented. Why? because this was the first time that Camp Seneca Lake hired a full time employee to capture the great moments of the summer. This continued the following summer with a new Photographer who was hired as part of the programming team, allowing him to have a full day to travel camp and capture the various events occurring. Along with this there was the implementation of the summer blog, bringing parents a day-to-day vision of what is going on at camp. The blog also provides an archive of past events that have happened at camp through the eyes of the people here.

The two years following this camp improvements, camp began to step it up with the integration of media both in and out of camp. With a full time videographer on staff and daily blogs, along side Instagram and Twitter, content was all over the place. CSL was able to see itself for the first time, which is something that has changed our ultimate destination indefinitely.

I am writing to you today to inform you that we are not lightening the load this summer. The blog will be better than ever. A full media team has been assembled. Projects have been drawn up. We are ready to put our blood, sweat, and tears into everything we create here in order to provide incredible content for you, our followers, and for the amazing children you intrust us with. Why? because we believe that it is important for them to have something to look back on, something to remind them of the amazing times they have had here, something to show their future children when they tell them stories of the amazing second home that changed them forever.

From all of us here in the media department and programming team, we cannot wait to share the great memories being made here at Camp Seneca Lake this summer.
