Dear Cayuga families,
After a stellar Cayuga day yesterday that included watching the movie Rio, going to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, playing mini golf, and going to the arcade at the Carousel Center in Syracuse, the campers, yet again, got after it today. Even though fellow Cayuga counselor, Tristan LeVant, left today to attend the College of Charleston, all of the Cayugans kept their heads up and looked forward to the later events of the day.
Cayuga had a sleep in this morning, and after a breakfast of cereal and bananas, the oldest campers headed off to the ropes course. There, the C-5 bunk performed the flying squirrel, a ropes course event that allows campers to soar through the air. Even though several campers discussed a fear of heights, every camper, through positive encouragement of his bunkmates, ended up trying this event. It truly was a sight to see, and all of the oldest Cayugans had a blast this morning.
Today, Cayuga bunks also saw the presence of SITIT's, or LIT's getting the opportunity to shadow counselors for a few days. All of the LIT's were an absolute pleasure to have, and the campers loved each and every one of them.
The oldest Cayugans then, rather than heading off to a normal lunch, went to Caitlyn's Cradle. Built on Tikkun Olam Day in July, Caitlyn's Cradle gives campers a chance to prepare their own lunch over a fire with the help of several counselors and the irreplaceable Neil DuPont. My bunk, C-5, had the opportunity to eat here today, and we prepared a delicious macaroni and cheese meal over which the campers quite literally drooled. For dessert, the counselors then served strawberry shortcake. The food was amazing, and the kids finally got a grasp on the quality of food that they are capable of preparing by themselves.
In the afternoon, the Cayugans then headed over to the agam, or waterfront. C-5 had waterskiing and then a party boat ride, a spectacular two periods in a row. In my boat, Jake Kaplan, Spencer Neu, and Allen Kaplan all were able to get up on the skis, even if it was only for a few seconds. The kids never cease to amaze me!
Next came bunk night, where the kids had a chance to do one of their favorite things, prank Onondaga. Although I wasn't there to see it for myself due to my day off, I heard it was a great prank that the kids loved. It sure won't be long, however, before Onondaga comes right back at us!
It was another great day in the 'Uge, and we can't wait to enjoy the remaining days of the session!
For now,
Alec Jacobson
